Fenway, 5/19/10
The forecast for this evening was for three foot surf, fairly clean, 8 second period waves at Fenway. But some bigger set waves were coming in. I dropped down to the 4.3 suit for the first time this year, but I forgot my hood. I still had my booties and gloves, and I was fine, all but once or twice when I got a couple of cool dunks. I was pleased with two of my rides tonight. One, because it was so long. I caught it way on the outside, way past the jetty, and rode it all the way in. We don’t usually get real long rides around here, so that was fun. Another wave was easily the best I’ve ridden in a while, probably since last fall. It was shoulder-high, and I got in it early, way outside the jetty. I built up some nice speed and got a nice turn, and some time along the face of the wave. whoo-hoo! Did I have the camera with me? No, I hadn’t bothered, because it was so overcast. But that ride got me really stoked.
There were between six and ten guys in the water with me tonight. I was clearly the old man out, until Mitch L. showed up with his paddleboard. I think that he’s got me by a year or two.
I rode the Bruce Jones. Water temperature is in the mid to low fiftees.
